Now drafting the August Trip Diaries
We have begun the process of outlining the August 2011 trip diaries. We’re begin writing the drafts this week, followed by revisions and then they’ll slowing start rolling out.
Some teaser info…
This will include restaurants reviews from a number of restaurants, including Virginia’s on King, Basil, Queen Anne’s Revenge, Graze, The Mustard Seed, Cupcake, Ted’s Butcherblock.
We’ll have more information and photographs from the attractions we visited, including the USS Yorktown, The Angel Oak, the Charleston Tea Plantation, Mangolia Plantation, Sullivan’s Island Beach, Pitt Street Bridge, Isle of Palms / Beach.
I also still have to straighten out the problems with the website itself, since it decided to develop problems the day before the trip. It may take a little more time to get everything working correctly!
August Charleston Trip Day 4: The Fat Hen
The Fat Hen, as with many restaurants in the area, highlights local ingredients through partnerships with local growers and providers. It’s French cuisine with a Southern flair. Located on Maybank Highway out on John’s Island, we thought this might be a little out of the way for us, but it turned out to be well worth the drive, which was only about twenty-five minutes from Mount Pleasant. On the side of a busy two-lane highway, it could be easy to miss if you don’t what you’re looking for, but there were plenty of people there. We decided to play chance and not get reservations, although we had read that this place really draws a crowd. There was a steady stream of cars arriving after us, and we appeared to be fortunate with just a twenty minute wait time. Most parties arriving appeared to have reservations.
More >August Charleston Trip, Day 1: Hominy Grill
Even though this website is a little on the experimental side, I have decided to blog about our trip daily. At least, that is my hope…however, this is a vacation, so I cannot make any promises. It’s much easier to make several small posts and photo uploads to the Facebook page
Day 1 began with our selection for brunch on this fine, yet humid Saturday morning….we chose the Hominy Grill. I had read recently that they had undergone a renovation and expansion. We also read a review at Dining Around Charleston.
We were afraid that there would be an extremely long wait, because they only take reservations for dinner. We have read of lines that stretched down the street. We were given a d 40 minute wait and decided it was worth the time. Here’s where we hit the speed bump. 50 minutes passed More >
Blog problems: theme meltdown
The look and feel of the website has nearly completely collapsed after installing a theme update! This is the best timing ever, because we are leaving for Charleston this evening!
I had planned to blog during the trip and will still try to do this. I have bandaged the site up as best as I can. Most of the functionality has returned and that’s the important thing! I’ll have to work on the theme adjustments after we return.
